Good as New

Sunday, December 28, 2014

I'm ashamed to say it's been almost six whole months since I've last posted on here. If you're still reading this, I love you for sticking by.

I have countless posts in my drafts at the moment. Over the months of getting acquainted at a new school and making new friends and keeping up grades, I've tried to write several different blog posts, but couldn't seem to make any of them good enough to post. I think I'll try to go make and fix them up after this.

I'll let you in on a little recap of my life over the past few months..

I started high school, so that's pretty cool. Nothing too much to talk about there. It's a lot easier than I expected it to be for some reason.

I've been practicing saving money and spending it only on the things I really want, and I highly recommend you to do the same. It's very rewarding. I buy mostly clothes and makeup with the money though, of course. Haha.

Another thing I really branched out in this year is my music taste. I've discovered I like basically every genre of music. And my favorite has to be indie folk. A couple months ago I didn't even know that was a type of music. If you want to hear some of my playlists here is my 8tracks and I'll definitely be updating it soon, because I haven't for quite a while.

I'm really getting into more high end makeup shopping and saving up to go on a shopping spree at Sephora every once in a while. I'll probably be doing a Christmas haul type post because of all the shopping I did this past week and with all the gifts I received. Would you guys like to see that?

Now it's already going to be 2015 in a couple of days..I almost can't believe it. This year has definitely been quite monumental for me.

This week I finally get to re-decorate my entire room! The excitement is almost unbearable, let me just say. I've been waiting a year and a half to do this and now it's all coming together. Pictures to come, for sure, my lovelies.

How were your holidays? Did you get any good presents?

Happy Holidays and a very Happy New Year! Good luck, muffins. <3

Style Icons

Saturday, June 21, 2014

I haven't really had any actual style icons up until a few weeks ago. I would just see a picture of a celebrity and say 'oh, that's a cute outfit', but never really paid much attention to their constant wardrobe or obsess over their style. I say that like it's a bad thing, but I don't really think it is. Now I've been starting to admire and appreciate other people's style and fashion choices.

As of now, two people come to mind when I hear the words 'style icon'.
Maia Mitchell and Kylie Jenner.
They both have that modern, grungy, not trying too hard look. While Kylie's style is more understandably put together, Maia's is more laidback.

Maia Mitchell:

Kylie Jenner:

That's all for now, folks!
Who are some of your style icons?

Summer Renewal

Wednesday, June 11, 2014

As you have noticed, I've been gone lately. But now it's summer. Finals are over, school is out, and I'm starting high school in less than three months. I've been thinking about that a lot - high school. I mean, how could you not? It's..everything. At least that's what everybody thinks about it.

A few weeks ago, one of my teachers explained that if we had one time in our life where we could start a completely new slate it would be right now. Here, most of the kids are going off to different schools. We'll be in new environments with totally new faces and challenges. No one will know us and we won't know them. So over the summer, we could completely change ourselves and basically restart our lives. That's a pretty big opportunity if you ask me. And I intend to take it.

So, this summer, I encourage you to take maybe a single small quality that you don't particularly like about yourself and attempt to change it. Who knows? It might make things a lot easier for you. It's nice to get a fresh start.

I Blame Veronica Roth

Wednesday, April 9, 2014

I've been absent lately from the blogosphere. I'll get right out and say it. It was all Veronica Roth's fault.

If you're not familiar with the Divergent trilogy, I'm here to tell you to get familiar with it.

A couple weeks ago (about two or three) I innocently picked up the Divergent book, not expecting much. But, boy, were my expectations low. This is one of the best books I've ever read. Possibly my favorite. It's not anything like the Hunger Games and I'm not really sure why people are saying that. The only similarity is that it's set in the future..seriously..that's it.

I'm almost done the third book, Allegiant, but I'm trying to read it slowly so I can savor every word. I really wish it never ended, to be honest.

I know what happens in the third book (I mean like the super big thing..if you read it, you know what I'm talking about). I saw spoilers on Tumblr before I even started the series, so. But that doesn't take away from the quality of my reading experience.

And if you know a thing or two about these books, you'll know they aren't short. To me, an ameatuer reader, they looked like the biggest things I've ever seen. All three books are 500+ pages. To read all of those in just a few short weeks is a pretty big feat for me.

I've also been busy with Camp NaNoWriMo, which is writing so give me a break. Hopefully, I'll have some more beauty posts in the future. I've been dressing up more for various things and trying out new products and such, so I'll definitely fill you guys in on that eventually.

Ciao for now, cuties!

NaNoWriMo

Wednesday, March 26, 2014

Ah..the time for Camp Nano. I can practically smell it. The new Internet friends, the late nights, the thirsty writing, the sugar fueled fingers tapping away on the keys. It's all there.

NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. As most of you probably know, that's in November. But the cool kids at the NaNo offices host a smaller NaNoWriMo two other times a year. One is in April and the other is in July. Since these are the Spring/Summer months, they are named Camp NaNoWriMo. I've heard about them for over a year, but after attempting NaNo last November (and, well, failing to complete my novel), I decided Camp NaNo would be a much better option. You can make any word count goal you want for yourself in these months, whereas in November, you're supposed to opt for 50,000 (the standard novel length word count).

My word count goal for April is 20,000 which I will hopefully surpass eventually. I just wanted to make a little post about it to inform you guys! It's really cool and fun to do and you can make tons of new friends on social media websites with it. If any of you are doing Camp NaNo or decide to do it last minute, just hit me up and we can talk alllll about it!

In Case You Wanted To Know...#1

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

I apologize for not blogging for almost two whole weeks. Everything in my life is coming  so fast and all of a sudden, I'm always busy. But I'll be blogging more this week, for sure!

That and I totally could have chosen blogging over binge watching The Fosters on Netflix, but whatever...Seriously though, that's a quality television show, let me just tell you. Actually the best show I think I've ever seen in my entire fourteen years.

As I'm telling you this, I'm listening to Callie Jacobs themed playlists on 8tracks with my brother's green Beats headphones. I'm also reading the latest Seventeen magazine, which is fabulous as always.

So, let me tell you some stuff about what I've been doing recently.

Play practice at school has been consuming quite a bit of my time. This year, we're putting on High School Musical. I have a total of one line that is..wait for it...two words. But I still have to go to all the practices and all that jazz. But it's pretty fun for the most part, actually.

I got third in my category at States for archery! It was my first tournament, so that's pretty good, if you ask me. I don't care what my place or score was, though. I felt really good that day and even if I came in last place, I would have been proud of myself. That being said, I've been practicing every day.

This Friday night, I'm going to an Ellie Goulding concert in Philly!! I'm super excited..it's actually gonna be my first concert if you don't count DigiTour back in October. I'll probably be going to the Lana Del Rey concert in May and I'm going to the One Direction concert in August, so that's pretty exciting too!

I've been compiling lists upon lists of makeup items and things that I need want. Hopefully, I can get my hands on a few of them soon. Some of them include the Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes and the Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation.

But let's get back to the Fosters. I'm so obsessed with that show, it's ridiculous. I've seen every episode almost twice and I just started on Sunday afternoon.

I've also discovered that I really want to get into photography and start playing the guitar (which is unusual because all my life I've watched people play guitar and it just looks so difficult, but I think I could do it..eventually.)

I have some blog posts planned that aren't just as boring and useless as this one. But in the meantime, leave me some comments! How have you been? Any big milestones or setbacks? I genuinely want to know, so hit me up in the comments!

February Faves

Friday, February 28, 2014

Today, I thought I would do the usual end of the month favorites post. Mostly because I can't think of anything better, but I'll just roll with it.

As I'm writing this right now, I'm painting my nails with Essie's Mint Candy Apple. It's one of their more famous nail polishes and it's just the perfect winter into spring color! I can only paint my nails on the weekends which I've been taking advantage of lately. So since that had to relevance to the post whatsoever, without further ado I present to you: my February Favorites.

TV Shows: New Girl, Bates Motel, Teen Wolf

Beauty: Naked 3 Palette (as always), Tarte Maracuja Oil

Music: Ellie Goulding (I'm seeing her live in 2 weeks from today eeep!!), Bombadil, The 1975, The Neighbourhood

Apps: The Hunt, 8tracks

First Impressions - Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy

Sunday, February 16, 2014

Overall, today was a pretty good day. I slept in until noon then raced to get ready to go to the mall. I made plans with my best friend previously for us to spend a few hours shopping before we would have to go back to school on Tuesday. I did a little damage, you could say...Only three stores though, so it's alright. We'll start off with Bath and Body Works. A while back I heard of their aromatherapy collection and was instantly intrigued. It's just so fascinating that a simple scent could completely transform your mood. And Bath and Body Works makes that luxury affordable. I've been wanting to try these products for a while, but wasn't able to purchase them until today. I ended up with two items - the Eucalyptus Tea Stress Relief Body Lotion and the Lavender Vanilla Sleep Pillow Mist. (Looking up those links, I've discovered that they're having $1 shipping on any order over $25 with the promo code PREZDAY In case you wanted to know (: )

The Eucalyptus Tea Stress Relief Body Lotion smells..just so relaxing. It's very soft and light and fluffy and not overwhelming whatsoever. I don't think it's great if you want to moisturize though. Just specifically for stress relief, I would say. I'll be sticking to my trusty Lush products for moisturization, if that's a word. It feels as if a knot in my stomach is being detangled when I smell this stuff.

The Lavender Vanilla Sleep Pillow Mist has got to be my favorite right now. The smell of this is incredible!!! It relaxes you and you honestly don't even have to spray it right before bed. It's supposed to relax you before you hit the hay, but I sprayed it all over my sheets the minute I got home. (I was a little excited, okay?) The smell is almost..sweet. I was a little hesitant to buy this because I hate the smell of lavender, but it is actually quite subtle and the whisps of vanilla make it so much more bearable.

Have any of you guys tried aromatherapy products? What do you do to de-stress, if something else?

Ciao!

Lana Del Rey

Friday, February 14, 2014

I'm pretty sure everyone's heard of Lana Del Rey. And if you haven't...what rock have your been living under?!

She's an absolutely fantastic singer and songwriter and I've just been craving her music lately. I've been listening to her music for well over a year now, but recently I have rekindled my love for her.

Listening to her music puts me in this..cool reminiscing mood. I'm reminiscing, but I feel uber cool at the same time. I know those are two things that don't go together at all, but that's just what I feel.

Her new album is coming out May 1st and I am ECSTATIC! I cannot wait!

I love Serial Killer and Radio right now, but my favorites are always changing.

I'm also seriously debating on investing in a record player. I'd love to hear her music on a record...sighs. Maybe if her new album comes out in vinyl, I can buy that. I'd buy a billion other records too, so it would be a serious investment. Any recommendations? And also, who are your guys' favorite singers at the moment?

Room For Revision

Tuesday, February 11, 2014

As you all probably very well know, I strive to post on Mondays and Fridays. I find that it's quite hard to do so nowadays. I'm so much busier and I want to make time to create quality posts which, for me, unfortunately is not realistic. I have decided that it would be a better idea to post whenever I want basically.

Some will be short posts, others longer. I'll probably end up posting more actually. Usually, I wait till the last minute to post when I cannot remember any of the good ideas I had earlier that week for posts. With this method, I'll be able to post right away!

Just wanted to explain and I hope you will all understand.

Thanks!

Ciao,

Winter Into Spring Makeup

Monday, February 3, 2014

The other day I was floating around YouTube watching a handful of winter makeup tutorials that are easy and wearable for almost everyone. I came across one that I really liked and decided to use. Of course, I switched it up a bit, but you still get the same effect. Actually, I think it would be a great neutral to wear all year around, but it's especially nice this time of year.

Tess Christine has gorgeously tanned skin (yes, all year around. Hard to believe considering she lives in Minnesota, but it is what it is.), if you didn't already notice. I'm that ghostly pale girl who always goes for the lightest shade makeup, so I wasn't sure it would be compatible. Turns out I actually love this look more on me than her, even if that does sound conceited which I know it does. Personally, I love the more neutral toned looks that, at the same time, make it evident that you're wearing a bit of makeup. This would be one of them for all you fellow fair skinned girls!

For the eyeshadows, I use my Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette. I swipe the white color Strange all over my eyelid and then blend in Nooner into my crease and at the outer corner of my eyelid, I swipe the brush in small circular motions. I also use Strange under my brows and in the inner corners of my eyelids and then smudge a little bit of Nooner onto half of my lower lash line.

I line my water and lash line with a light black eye pencil and top everything off with a Maybelline mascara. Any one of your choice will do, I use the blue one with the long name that I'm too lazy to look up. And occasionally the yellow one.

Do you guys have a go-to makeup look this time of year?

Ciao!

Positivity.

Friday, January 31, 2014

Another short post, I know, I know.

Positivity. I would put a definition here, but I think everyone has their own definition of positivity.

I'm really trying hard to be more of an optimist about everything. Every morning, I wake up and tell myself 'it's gonna be a good day' and I know I can make it a good day. You and I have the power to change our day. It sounds silly, but it can really affect a lot if you think about it. Be happy and smile a little more and it brightens your day as well as others. But if you're being a Negative Nellie, it will just depress your mood and that's no fun.

Why waste your short time on Earth unhappy when you could be happy?

Do things that put you in a good mood. Do you like to paint? Go out, buy some paint, and PAINT! Do you like to write? Go out journal hunting and buy something that you will ENJOY writing in! Do you like to dance? DANCE! Join a class or just dance around your house like a nut! No one can judge you if you don't let them!

Keep telling yourself what you WANT to believe until you START believing it yourself!

Got a bad grade? That's alright! Even though you're probably sick of hearing it - you do really learn from your mistakes. You'll do better next time.

Maybe you don't know how to motivate yourself. Setting goals can be hard and I understand. How do I reach my goals?

I force myself to do it by rewarding myself along the way until I feel like I want my goal enough to power me through the work.

Did you know that to be a master at something you have to work 10,000 hours at it?
That's like, say, a person works 8 hours a day 5 days a week. They'd have to work for over 5 years. Yes, that seems like quite a while, doesn't it? But I promise, promise, PROMISE, it'll come to you once you really want it to!

Oh, and it's also OKAY to be a quitter. When it's not okay is if you quit because you think what you're doing is embarrassing or you've been peer pressured out of it. If you like it, do it. If you don't like it, don't. Your opinion is the only one that should matter to you.

But when you stay positive, you can do anything. Anything at all. Just keep swimming through the hurricane and you'll make it through eventually.

Winter Skin Care Routine

Friday, January 24, 2014

Tarte Maracuja Oil - This stuff works miracles, let me tell you. It's used for moisturizing and firming up the skin on your face and neck, while clearing up your complexion and leaving you with an absolutely radiant glow! I have the rollerball applicator which is so much easier to apply and there's tons of oil in it anyway. I use this right before I go to bed, after washing off all my makeup. If you have oily skin, it may seem weird to apply an oil to your face, but this will clear that all up within a matter of days! It also works with dry skin, hydrating that as well. If it can work with any skin type then it's a miracle worker in my book.

Clean and Clear Deep Action Cream Cleanser - The typical cream cleanser. Just wet your face, rub it in, and rinse it off. I usually do this is the shower at night. I use this mostly around my T-zone where blackheads gather and after 2-3 nights of this, they clear right up! Nice to have and very inexpensive.

Clean and Clear Morning Burst Hydrating Facial Cleanser - I usually use this on mornings where I wake up feeling..'blah'. I don't really feel like this does much for my skin and probably won't repurchase, but it is nice to have.

Lush Tea Tree Water - I've raved about this on previous posts, but this is still a staple for me. I imagine this is especially great in the summer to spritz on as well. In the winter, I use this before bed with a couple squirts directly on my face and I'm good to go. It's awesome at balancing out my skin tone and clearing out blemishes.

Lush Ocean Salt - One of my all time favorite exfoliators. It's infused with lime and vodka to brighten up the skin and unblock pores as well as avocado and coconut to hydrate the skin. It contains sea minerals and tons of sea salt to exfoliate your skin. I know that for me with my sensitive skin, this product can be a little difficult to use. It hurts my face, leaving it feeling a bit raw afterwards, but the effects are so amazing that the little pain is worth the gain!

Lush Charity Pot - As you can probably tell by now, I'm a major Lushie. What can I say? Like I said in a previous post, I received a small pot of this for Christmas which I use everyday and still have. I will definitely be buying this in the full sized version next time I get around to Lush. This unbelievably moisturizing lotion can be used all over the body and all profits (yeah that's right, 100% of them!) go to various grassroots charities depending on whichever one is labeled on the pot. It's a win-win for everyone, right?

The Body Shop Mango Body Butter - This silky, butter like lotion is great for dry skin. Super hydrating, the exotic mango scent can transport you to a tropical island. I originally got this for my mom and now we both share it. This is also great to use on your cuticles! If you want to splurge some more, another great cuticle treatment my mom loves is Lush's Lemony Flutter. *Sadie Saxton voice* You're welcome.

Your lips are part of your skin too! For my lips, I love using Maybelline's BabyLips in Peach KissBurts Bee's Tinted Lip Balm in Petunia and Lush's Honey Trap Lip Balm.

On another note, I'm thinking of posting on more days than just Mondays and Fridays. What do you guys think?

And like always, all pictures are from Tumblr.

Ciao for now, muffins!

Me Time

Monday, January 20, 2014

Everyone needs some "me time" in their life. Just a couple hours to relax and enjoy yourself and get away from the world for a little while.

For me, that means marathoning a TV show or a YouTube channel after a warm shower or bath. And now I've added eating a deep dish cookie to the mix. Today, I'm going to share with you an absolutely scrumptious recipe for a single serving deep dish chocolate chip cookie.

I got this recipe from this 'ere website which I will most definitely be trying out more recipes from!

1 tbsp. butter, melted
1 tbsp. white sugar
1 tbsp. brown sugar
3 drops of vanilla
pinch of salt
1 egg yolk
1/4 c. flour
2 tbsp. chocolate chips

In a bowl, mix together the butter, sugars, vanilla, and egg yolk.
Add in the flour and salt.
Mix until combined.
Add in the chocolate chips.
Put the dough into a small microwaveable bowl, ramekin, or coffee cup.
Microwave for 40-60 seconds or until the cookie looks done.
Best served warm… Enjoy!

Of course, I was out of brown sugar and substituted with some more granulated sugar. I'm pretty sure it affected the outcome, but it was one of the most amazing things I've ever tasted either way! I seriously recommend this if you have a sweet tooth and don't know what to make. I have to say, it looks under cooked when you take it out of the microwave, but after tasting it, you'll see it's perfect and has a fluffy texture, maybe even better than a real cookie.

Hope you enjoy and I'd love for you to share how it turned out for you!

Ciao.
(Oh, and I didn't take any of these pictures. They're all from Tumblr!)

LATE POST: Tea Haul

Saturday, January 18, 2014

As you can tell, it's a Saturday. And I don't post on Saturdays. I totally forgot I was busy all Friday as soon as I got home from school until midnight and so did not remember to type up a post on Thursday. To shame myself for my miserable failure, I have labeled this post in big, bold, tacky letters: "LATE POST". I think it's some seriously good motivation for me to not be late on posting again.

Anywho, I got a gift card at Christmas for Teavana and decided to do some shopping there last week with it! For those of you who don't know what Teavana is, it's a majestical wonderland for all tea lovers. And by that I mean, it's basically the Starbucks of tea. And it actually is owned by Starbucks. Does it get any better than that, guys?

I bought quite a lot of tea and spent about $40 of my $50 gift card. Let me tell you, boy, was it worth it.

White Chocolate Peppermint Tea

Every single time I go into Teavana, I leave with a couple ounces of this stuff. I can't even begin to explain to you how delicious this tea is. This roobios tea contains truly decadent flavors of chocolate with whirls of peppermint and a smooth, creamy consistency that really just ices the cake! It's limited edition, I believe (for the holidays), but I've heard some rumors that it was such a hit, it might stay all year around..fingers crossed!!

German Rock Sugar

I don't care if they've had the same sample teas in the store for the past two months, I'm going to try them every time. And every time they taste better than when I make them at my house. Now I know these people are some serious tea connoisseurs, but they can't magically make it taste that scrumptious. So, I had to ask them. They told me that they add rock sugar to most of their samples. You should use about 2 teaspoons for every 6oz. cup you make or whatever amount tickles your fancy. It's actually sold there, but way in the back corner, so that's why I've never seen it before! The employee explained that if you use granulated sugar, it will try to overpower the tea's flavors and leave you with more of a cup of dirt tasting liquid which I don't presume anyone would enjoy.

Pumpkin Spice Brulee

The first tea I ever had from Teavana -- and I was sold! This taste great with rock sugar, as well! The employees said that everyone had been stocking up on this since it's 75% off and they're discontinuing it! Seriously, go buy some of this stuff like right now! It's pumpkin, toffee, butterscotch, and  vanilla with a bit of mocha splashed it there. It's perfect all year around, not just the fall time!

Sweet Decadence Gift Set

This was more of a gift set for myself and my family, but it was such a great deal that I had to take it! It was also on sale as it was already past the new year and is no longer on sale, but let me just tell you. It contains Toasted Nut Brulee, CocoCaramel Sea Salt, WonderBerry Truffle, and Slimful Chocolate Decadence. These are all for purchase individually on Teavana's website and I believe in all of the stores. It also contained two tea cup infusers (which I'm STOKED about now owning) and four intricately decorated tins to store your loose leaf tea in! You really don't need rock sugar for any of these though, babes!

Strawberry Cream

This was also on sale, so I figured I'd try it out after getting a recommendation for it. I have to say it's just not for me. I'm not the type for fruity teas like this. It's exactly what it says it is - a creamy strawberry flavor. But my family loves it and it is absolutely creamy. So if you love that kind of stuff, you'll love this.

Isaac Lahey Tea

Okay, so this isn't from Teavana, but I just HAD to include it considering this is a tea haul! As you all probably know, I'm a little addicted to MTV's Teen Wolf no thanks to my best friend. This past Christmas, I got her a tea blend that was inspired by her favorite character on the show, Stiles Stilinski. She loved it and re-purchased it herself online, so I thought, why not treat myself? I in fact did, but bought my favorite character's tea blend, Isaac Lahey, instead. I'm excited to say that it is the best tea I've ever tasted! Of course, my opinion might be slightly biased because it is (once again) Isaac Lahey tea. I feel like I need to stress that fact because I'm so emotionally attached to this fictional character. It tastes AMAZING with Teavana's rock sugar, also! It's not too overpowering, but a perfect combination of vanilla, mint, chocolate, and foxtrot. I highly recommend this to those who do or do not watch the show. I also highly recommend watching the show *wink, wink*.

So sorry for the low-quality pictures! I'm saving up for a camera, but it might be a while...

Oh, and thoughts on the new template/theme? I love it! And it's still a work in progress, so if something's a little off, it should be fixed by the end of the week.

Ciao for now!
